We understand very well that the knowledge of local history is a complex knowledge of history and geography together as well as it is ecology learning. Studying of local history means not only knowledge about the local area but the ways of learning, research and distribution of knowledge as well. A school is a social institute which covers every citizen without exception, and we expect that this tutorial guidance in Geography will be an influential teaching factor for teachers, a means of development of patriotic feeling and love for your “small Motherland”.

The President of “Business Youth – Atyrau” PLC –
Gulmira Karagozhina
Virtual excursions to the past and present of our city and region are recommended by teachers of Geography to be able to educate students about the geography of the native land, memorable places, museums, interesting natural sites and famous countrymen. Virtual excursions can become real tourist routes and walks through native land in the future. The peculiar feature of tourist and local study of the native land shall be its deep studying process. We have to recall the words by M.I.Kalinin: “The development of patriotic feeling starts with a deep studying of your own Motherland. Therefore, one has to study local Geography”. We think that local study helps to form a man as a citizen, it is a school of learning and a way of thinking, a school of education with the help of history and culture and a school of ecological education.

The author of the guide, Nellie Kulikovskikh,
Master of Psychology.
Our life becomes a history with every minute we live. There is a change of eras, formations, generations and values going on. And people get to change as well: they grow, reach their aims and establish new guiding lines for themselves. It is the history, genealogy, roots and the experience of ancestors that help us not to get lost on the map of life. The main aim of local studies is to educate a man who loves and knows his own region. A school programme includes lessons of local studies but there are no special programme and study books covering this theme. However, children have to be aware not only of the history of the country but of the history of their “little motherland”. The methodological guide for teachers of Geography contains information on the events aimed at local studies. They are represented as virtual excursions to the local area and they are presented by the leading consultants in this field. The guide consists of 11 themes, each one of them tells about nature, history, events and people who used to live at the territory of our region so many years ago. Our aim was not to fully tell about this or that subject. On the contrary, we wished to leave a space to a teacher and pupils for independent work to be able to broaden this theme. This guide has been developed for teachers of Geography, Local Studies, History and teachers of out-of-class learning.
